Our approach

With our extensive knowledge & experience, Compliance Water Services can provide an effective approach to Legionella elimination and awareness in Australia. Legionella is a risk which needs to be identified, monitored and controlled through proactive steps, which, we can help you achieve.

We aim to provide comprehensive information about Legionella and its likelihood, training those who are responsible for the well-being of others and provide pre-emptive strategies to managing your Legionella risk.

If a facility or site uses or stores water and has the means of creating water droplets which may be inhaled then there is a reasonably foreseeable risk of exposure to Legionella

Legionella becomes a risk when:

  • Water sits between the temperatures of 20 – 50℃
  • Water stagnation occurs in as little as 7 – 10 days
  • Water is in aerosol form – breathable droplets
  • Favourable conditions – poor water quality, growth of bio-film or low turnover of the system such as building vacancy
  • Showers  / changing rooms
  • Water tanks – stored / rain water
  • Dead legs – redundant pipes
  • Cooling towers
  • Spa / jacuzzis
  • Hot / Cold / warm water system
  • Water features
  • Irrigation systems / Hoses
  • Water systems out of use for long duration
  • Fire suppression (improper use)
  • Solar hot water systems
  • Spray Taps
  • Severity increases with age
  • Immuno-system compromised
  • Diabetes
  • Transplant patients
  • Elderly & very young
  • Smokers
  • Heavy drinkers
  • Respiratory issues
  • Underlying health issue

Health & Aged Care

In January 2016, new best practice national guidelines were released on the control of Legionella in Health and Aged Care facilities. All states have various levels of requirements, whether they be legislated in Queensland, policy directives in New South Wales or codes of practice in Western Australia.

Compliance Water Services can help you navigate the regulatory requirements for your situation. Whether you’re a one site location or your multi-state. Compliance Water Services can cater to your needs.

Commercial Buildings

A huge misconception is that Legionella only arises from the Cooling Towers on top of buildings. The risk of Legionella is throughout all of the building, within the building’s water distributions systems. Water storage tanks, fatigued plumbing, unused or little used showers in offices, vacant floors even with basic facilities all contribute to the Legionella risk in your building.

Compliance Water Services can assist you to meet your duty of care with a Legionella Risk Assessment to minimise your risk and danger to users and occupants of your building.

Cooling Tower Audits

Victoria has some of the most stringent legislation for Cooling Tower compliance in the world. In fact, the Australian state of Victoria requires Cooling Towers to have a Risk Management Plan (RMP). Further, it requires for that RMP to be audited annually.

The audit addresses 3 issues; whether the RMP has been reviewed within the last 12 months, whether the RMP addresses the 5 critical risks, and whether the RMP is being implemented.

Contact Compliance Water Services for further information about our Cooling Tower Audit process.

Hotels & Accommodation

Hotels and Student Accommodation both can have quiet periods leading to a high risk of Legionella contamination. Hotels with low season and Student Accommodation with end of term or mid-season breaks, of as little as 1 week and temperature above 20⁰C can lead to your facility being colonised by Legionella Bacteria.

Compliance Water Services can assist you to meet your duty of care with a Legionella Risk Assessment to minimise your risk and dangers to users of your hotel or Student Accommodation.

Mining and Quarrying

Mine sites and Quarrying Operations have many water systems that expose workers to water that is with-in the ranges ideal for Legionella growth. Dust suppressions whether above or below ground will expose your workers to potentially harmful Legionella without appropriate control measure or treatment. Showers / shower blocks with long periods of inactivity between use will expose workers to Legionella. Due to the nature of the location of Mining and the workforce, the conditions for Legionella growth and exposure is ideal, without a Legionella Risk Assessment you are critically putting your workers at risk.

Compliance Water Services can provide Legionella Risk Assessments that minimise risk to all your workers. Implementing control measures and recommending cost efficient treatment systems to minimise exposure.

As of 1st of September 2017 Legionellosis, if you are Mine Operator or Quarry Operator, is a reportable disease to Queensland Government. A Legionella Risk Assessment is paramount.

Independent Sampling

When you’ve got critical risks on-site and you need an impartial body to verify the effectiveness of your control measures, Compliance Water Services can take independent sampling for all your needs. We work in conjunction with various NATA Laboratories to ensure samples meet time sensitive requirements and to ensure cost savings for you.
